Press Release: Chris Phelen Coaches Son to Alpine Ski Victory
(SUNLIGHT MOUNTAIN, CO) – Chris Phelen, Congressional Candidate for Colorado’s 4th District, had a busy weekend of coaching and campaigning, traveling to the Head Rebels Youth Ski League (YSL) Kombi race event hosted at Sunlight Mountain. Both of the Phelen Boys are members of Team Summit and Chris is an Assistant Coach for the team as well. Madoc, age 7, and Ramsey, age 14, both placed in the Alpine Ski Competition this weekend with Ramsey finishing first in both races at the Kombi event.
Youth Skiers traveled to Sunlight Mountain from across U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Rocky Mountain Division and competed in morning and afternoon Kombi races. A “Kombi” combines the aspects of slalom and giant slalom racing, thereby testing the Youths’ proficiency in both styles of Alpine Skiing.
The Phelens are avid skiers with Ramsey starting in the sport at age 2, and Madoc beginning his skiing career before his 2nd Birthday.
“Madoc could ski before he could really talk, so he would go around exclaiming, ‘I gee. I gee.’ As a toddler, he would demand to wear his ski boots even in the summertime and would cry when he saw ski lifts not operating during the offseason. As a Colorado Family, we love to be outdoors and in Colorado’s beautiful Mountains,” Phelen shared.
“It is a pleasure to see my boys reap the benefit of all their hard work and dedication to the sport. They have spent countless hours practicing with Team Summit, and I am honored to help as a coach for the program.”

Today, Chris Phelen heads back out on the campaign trail as he continues to knock on doors and visit with voters in Castle Rock, where his family lives.
