Chris Phelen, Congressional District 4 candidate, and one of seven Republicans vying for Ken Buck’s seat, completed stops in all 21 counties of District 4 in just 10 days in January.

If Phelen is elected, he says he will complete this tour every year while he holds the seat. The tour is known as Colorado’s version of the “Full Grassley,” named after Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and his yearly trips to each county.

“Senator Grassley set the precedent by visiting every county, every year.” Phelen said. “Like the good Senator from Iowa, I believe that our government should work for the people. If the great people of the 4th District choose me as their representative, I pledge to listen to them by visiting every county in the district at least once per year.”

Phelen, a small business owner and former Chief of Staff to Congressman Doug Lamborn, said he believes it is vital that the district’s representative and staff actively engage every corner of the district.

After his 21-county tour, Phelen issued a challenge to the other candidates who threw their hat in the ring for the congressional seat.

“The 4th District represents a diverse constituency across the 21 counties that it encompasses, and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting every county and meeting with people in restaurants, gun shops, feedlots, and other local businesses,” Phelen said. “I challenge all of the other candidates to do the same and hear from the people in every corner of the district.”

After Ken Buck announced he would retire at the end of his current term, nine congressional hopefuls have announced they are looking to fill the seat Buck has held since 2015.

Others running for the Republican Nomination include: Lauren Boebert, Deborah Flora, Richard Holtorf, Trent Lane Leisy, Mike Lynch, and Peter Yu. Ike McCorkle and John Padora Jr. are the two candidates in the running for the Democratic nomination.

The Colorado Primary Election will be June 25 and will decide which two candidates will appear on the November ballot.
